We’ve been toying with a crossover idea in the office for a while, and here it is! Gateway to the Unknown is our experimental six scenario campaign that lets Maladum adventurers wander far from the familiar dungeon and straight into the cold and foreign Alien Catacombs of Core Space: First Born.
What’s Going On in This Campaign?
Your adventurers are pulled across space and time with no idea what a starship is, let alone why an angry hovering hunk of metal keeps trying to scan them. Already a little nervous as new party setting out in your careers you are thrust into a world where you’re a fighting to survive long enough to get home.
From there, things escalate:
- First Born foes become Adversaries under Maladum rules.
- Items from both games mingle, though ammunition and artefacts behave a little differently when magic enters the mix.
- Ancient minerals replace the usual marketplace economy. You’ll need them to power alien devices rather than selling them for coin.
- The event decks are shuffled together, so expect some surprises. Sleeves are your friend if you prefer to keep the mystery intact.
A World That Doesn’t Want You Here
Between quests, your party doesn’t get the comforts of civilisation. Resting becomes its own hazard. One night might leave your Malacytes misfiring. Another might fill the cavern with alien spores. Some nights are even helpful; which probably means the environment is planning something worse.
You’re somewhere you shouldn’t be, dealing with a world you barely understand, while ancient machines wake up around you.
