Battle Systems – January 25 Update

Following on from our recent video where we dragged Colin in front of a camera, away from what he loves doing most, we wanted to put out a quick update in writing that summarises all the topics covered in this video.

Current Projects

We’re still working on these but are excited about what we have set for imminent release and are currently working on, even if Colin would rather be working on Project Penguin.

Terrain: We have been working on a new terrain set that is a bespoke build, meaning that it requires no clips to go together. The team have been able to work in greater detail on aspects such as the rafters in the roof and how the furniture sits within the buildings. It’s taking a little more time to design and get right but we’re very happy with our prototypes and the progress we’re making on this.

Maladum Character Expansion: We previously showed some character artwork for an expansion that we’re doing with Maladum which is continuing to progress but isn’t in a position for us to show you anything further just yet.

Mounts in Maladum: Again, we previously spoke about this when we had a concept, we’ve now progressed this to around 3 different mounts that we will be introducing to the game. More on that to come in a few months at our next update.

Upcoming Releases

Crypts and Caverns: Available in store now

This terrain pack expands your Battle Systems Dungeon with unique walls, floors, furniture and accessories not found in the core set. These can add variety to your dungeon or castle layouts, build towering multi-level sections, or create bespoke rooms to suit your quest objectives.

We’re currently working on some dedicated content for this so stay tuned on our socials for that.

Deluxe Rulebook: Releases 10th February – Pre-Order Offer Available

This 160 page hardback rulebook contains everything you need to play Maladum in one place, including additional rules, spells and skills from all of the current and upcoming expansions. As well as expanding the game with advanced rules, a deep dive into the lore and beautiful artwork throughout.

Revenant Retribution Expansion: Releases 10th February – Pre-Order Offer Available

Accompanied by a set of veteran event cards. This expansion adds an extra 8 Lamentors, 3 Myria and an additional Hellfont to your game. Perfect for multi-party games, playing on a larger map or for those among you looking for more of a challenge.

Maladum Reference Cards: Releases 10th February – Pre-Order Offer Available

A very handy and nice to have accessory for Maladum. This pack comes with 25 class reference cards, 2 dice reference cards and an NPC reference Card.

Beyond the Vaults: Releases March 2025

This expansion for Maladum takes the game beyond the Vaults of Enveron in the starter set and allows you to get creative!

  • Expanded terrain rules set your games in more detailed locations using the full Battle Systems Dungeon range, or mix and match by swapping new items into existing games.
  • The Universal Quest is a one-size-fits-all scenario–a standalone replayable quest for up to six parties of Adventurers. It can be played on any terrain with different combinations of objectives each time.
  • The Maladum on Location section focuses on the terrain expansion packs, with bespoke scenarios set in the Mines of Meruta, Ravenskeep Sewers, and more, with themed Event Cards too!
  • Add variety to your games with additional Equipment, Side Quests, and Hidden Locations.

This expansion integrates the Battle Systems Dungeon and/or other terrain expansions into Maladum. Both the Maladum: Dungeons of Enveron starter set and any of the Dungeon terrain expansions are required to use this set. We have tutorials for each map planned so keep an eye on our website and Youtube channel for those.

That said, this expansion also enables you to ‘go outside and play’ by stepping out of the dungeons entirely and using it with other terrain, such as the Fantasy Village as we have done here.

Project Penguin:

Finally, Colin shared his deep dark secret that he is working on something Core Space called Project Penguin.

This is something that he is particularly looking forward to focusing all his and the team’s energy on, but we want to get our existing projects into the wild first.

We acknowledge that content is a little Fantasy heavy with the release of Maladum but Sci-Fi is still very much in our hearts and we are still committed to supporting the game.

We’re back up and running with the monthly missions and the game is still being printed and copies sold every month as more and more people are coming to it. So keep posting in the communities to make newer players feel welcome and thank you to everyone who hops onto rules and homebrew queries.

There is a lot to look forward to over the next year, and we’re looking forward to getting it out onto everyone’s tabletops.

Until the next update, Happy Gaming everyone.
