Three episodes in, and the Eidolon’s crew are finally starting to look like they know what they’re doing. Episode 3 takes them into Mission Two – Don’t Spare the Rod, and for the first time, nobody’s panicking going in.
Well. Almost nobody.
Last Time Out
Episode 2 was a turning point. Everyone made it out alive which, given how Episode 1 went, felt like a major achievement. More importantly, the loot was good. To top it off Captain Cassie was quietly satisfied with her crew because they proved they could work as a unit when it mattered.
“I thought it went really well,” says Wade, “because we didn’t die.”
And it’s hard to argue with that as a metric. If you’re just joining us you can go back to the first mission’s blog post here and see where our crew started out. For those of you who are up to date on our campaign, read below to see what changes and upgrades the crew have made ahead of the next mission.
THE CREW OF THE EIDOLON

JOHN – CAPTAIN CASSIE PELTIER
John was quick to praise the crew ahead of this mission. Everyone made it out alive and the crew managed to fill their pockets with a bit of loot at the same time. Going into this mission John has chosen to level up the Combat Expert skill to level 2. Ever the strategist and clearly preparing for a fight this means that Cassie can now make a Close Assault action as an effortless action. On top of that Cassie can also now use a ranged weapon instead of a close assault weapon and add 2 dice to the attack.
Going into the next mission Cassie is planning for more of the same, good team work, get as much loot as possible but with priority to getting out alive.
Wayne – Wade
Wayne continued the flow of positivity. Happy with the military pistol and the shard he escaped with. He goes on to admit that he had forgotten to level up between sessions. Anyone who plays D&D or Starfinder can attest you leave the table with great ideas, a few weeks pass and then you remember you’ve got points to spend! But Wayne goes on to level up Counter Shot meaning that as a reaction after being targeted with a ranged attack, Wade can make a ranged attack against the attacker. Tactics wise, keep together and get through the mission. From memory of the previous times he’s played the mission it’s typically a quieter one… cut to him running back to the ship with his hair on fire.

Michael – Balcor
Echoing the positive points of John and Wayne, Michael was also happy that the crew got out with both loot and their lives. However, also raised that he was disappointed with the lack of Rock Worms… we’ll see if that attitude holds up when he meets one. When levelling up Michael chose the Energise skill for Balcor. Spending one skill peg means Balcor can make a Move action or Ranged Assault action OR restore 1 Health.
Heading into the next mission Balcor is also hoping for more of the same. Get some loot, kill somethings on the way and he’ll be happy.
Starting Crew & Equipment

The goal of these games is ultimately to have as much fun as possible. But we are also aiming to show what the players’ choices are between games to change equipment and level up their characters. These insights can either help lead your next decision, or act as a cautionary tale that a skill won’t work for your you.
That’s the setup for Mission 3. Episode 3: Save the Rod is now live on our YouTube Channel, so all that’s left is for you to watch what happens!
Until next time, Happy Gaming!
